Frequently Asked Questions
1. What is SeaSight, and how does it protect my boat?+
SeaSight is a range of smart security solutions designed to protect your vessel from theft or unauthorised movement. Our products provide physical protection, sensor-based monitoring, and self-powered tracking, giving you complete peace of mind wherever you are. SeaSight is specifically designed for the marine environment, intelligently distinguishing normal movement from genuine security threats.
2. What are the differences between SeaSight Secure, Shield, and Stealth?+
Secure is our first-line physical protection, designed as a strong visual deterrent and physical safeguard. Shield is a sensor-based system providing real-time monitoring and instant app alerts. Stealth is a fully independent, self-powered tracking device that continues transmitting location data even if the boat's main power is cut. The three products are designed to work independently or together as a layered security system.
3. How does SeaSight Secure work, and what makes it different from a standard lock?+
SeaSight Secure features a high-security, marine-grade cable and padlock with a restricted, non-duplicable key. Authorised harbourmasters and boatyards hold a master key compatible with all Secure units, ensuring emergency access across the SeaSight network. This balances strong owner security with practical marina operations, avoiding destructive cutting in emergencies.
4. How does SeaSight Shield monitor my boat, and what alerts will I receive?+
Shield uses a smart mooring sensor paired with an onboard base station. If your vessel moves or disconnects from its mooring, you receive real-time alerts through the SeaSight app. You can also immobilise your boat or trigger an audible siren remotely. Shield is designed to understand typical marine movement such as tide, wind, and wash, reducing false alarms.
5. How does SeaSight Stealth work, and how is it installed?+
Stealth is a self-powered tracking unit that can be installed discreetly in a secure location on your vessel. It continues transmitting its location even if the main power is cut. Stealth can also be used on vessels or assets with no permanent power supply, such as tenders, trailers, and stored craft.
6. What is the battery life of SeaSight Stealth and how do I recharge it?+
SeaSight Stealth is designed for long-term operation, with a typical battery life of 3–5 years depending on reporting frequency and movement. The batteries are not user-serviceable and must be handled by an authorised dealer. We would normally exchange the unit at the cost of replacement batteries.
7. Do SeaSight products require professional installation or can I do it myself?+
SeaSight Secure and Stealth can be installed by the owner with no specialist tools. Shield can be owner-installed if you are comfortable with basic boat wiring; we also recommend professional fitting by approved SeaSight partners. For marinas and commercial operators, we can coordinate installation during commissioning or lift-out.
8. Do I need any special equipment or installation to use SeaSight products?+
No specialist equipment is required. Shield requires a connection to your boat's power supply; Stealth operates entirely independently with its own battery. All products are configured through the SeaSight app, which guides you through setup step by step.
9. On which devices can I monitor my boat remotely?+
All SeaSight products with monitoring capabilities can be accessed via iOS and Android apps, or via the web portal on your laptop. Multiple boats and assets can be viewed from a single account.
10. What happens if my boat is moved or tampered with?+
You will receive instant alerts through the SeaSight app. For Shield users, you can immobilise the vessel or trigger an audible siren remotely. Alerts can also be shared with trusted contacts if required.
11. How do alerts work if I lose internet or mobile coverage?+
SeaSight devices store events securely and transmit alerts as soon as mobile coverage is restored. Where coverage is available to the device but not to your phone, alerts will be delivered once your device reconnects.
12. Can multiple users monitor the same boat simultaneously?+
Yes. Owners can securely invite family members, crew, or marina staff with configurable access levels through the SeaSight app. Owners can also view multiple craft in one app if they have more than one vessel.
13. How does the master key system work for SeaSight Secure?+
A universal master key is held by authorised harbourmasters and boatyards participating in the SeaSight network. This ensures safe access in emergencies while maintaining high-security standards for owners. Master key holders are vetted and registered within the SeaSight system.
14. Are SeaSight products suitable for all types of boats and marine environments?+
Yes. SeaSight products are designed for a wide range of vessels and built to withstand challenging marine conditions — moorings, marinas, boatyards, and trailer storage. Whether you have a small sailing boat or a larger powerboat, there is a solution for you.
15. What maintenance is required for each product?+
SeaSight products are designed to be low-maintenance. Secure requires occasional visual checks to ensure the cable and padlock remain in good condition. Shield and Stealth require minimal upkeep beyond checking battery levels and ensuring devices remain securely installed. Firmware updates are delivered automatically via the platform.
16. How is data from my boat handled and stored securely?+
All data is encrypted in transit and at rest and stored in secure cloud infrastructure. SeaSight complies with UK GDPR requirements, and your data is never sold or shared without your consent.
17. Can SeaSight products be moved between boats?+
Yes. Secure, Shield, and Stealth can all be transferred between vessels. The app allows reassignment of devices, making SeaSight ideal for seasonal boats, upgrades, or resale.
18. What support or customer service is available?+
SeaSight provides UK-based customer support to assist with setup, troubleshooting, and general enquiries. Whether you need help installing a product or have questions about alerts or app functionality, the support team is available to guide you.
19. How resistant are SeaSight products to harsh marine conditions?+
SeaSight products are designed to withstand saltwater exposure, vibration, temperature variation, and UV exposure. All components are marine-grade and tested accordingly. SeaSight Shield is IP67 rated; SeaSight Stealth is IP68 rated.
20. Can SeaSight products be integrated with other marine electronics or onboard systems?+
Yes. SeaSight Shield can interface with selected onboard systems such as immobilisers, sirens, and sensors. Future integrations with NMEA-compatible systems are planned.
21. Do I need a subscription to use SeaSight products?+
SeaSight Secure requires no subscription — it works independently as a physical deterrent. Shield and Stealth require a data subscription for monitoring and tracking functionality. Both include a 1-year subscription. Additional 1-year (£96) and 3-year (£234) subscriptions are available.
